I have been using this bike for my local downhill trails and town use and it has coped very well. The tyres are very grippy and the brakes are perfect. The saddle is a touch uncomfortable but I don't really care. The best bike I have ever had!

    Comments:

i use this bike everyday or 5 days of the week, on trails and roads. it handles amazingly even in wet conditions with little traction and the disc breaks are perfect. the fork i received is the 4900's with the remote lockout so it is not the standard 4500's fork so i can leave no comment on it. the pedals unlike all of welgo's plastic poor pedals, are finally a durable aluminum with large studs that lock perfectly in my shoes (i use DC shoes) this bike climbs incredibly well and descends quite fast. it is very lightweight (27 ish pounds) and i don't know why people complain about the tires they work well for what i ride on, if you really want a good tire tell a employee what you ride on and they'll get a better tire for what suits you. overall this bike is very well made, durable, lightweight, fast, and easy to pedal and i am never getting another bike that is not trek again.

      Comments:

I got this bike as part of a warranty from my old 2001 Trek 4 series MTB, so no complaints and many thanks to TREK for standing by their warranty, BUT, would I buy this bike new? no way. the shocks are no good and I had to replace them after 4 rides. the freewheel broke (10'th ride) but was replaced under warranty (I have never broken a freewheel in my life). the back brake vibrates strongly under normal/hard breaking, making it borderline unusable. pros: good balance, comfortable, fun for downhills. Can I recommend this bike: NO, unless you don't ride off road. I would spend more money to get a higher quality bike, which 10 years ago wasn't necessary.

      2010 4500 was step down from 2009 4300

      Comments:

Much heavier than the previous year's 4300. Maybe due to components, etc. I was really impressed with how light the 2009 4300 was. Oh well - looks like it'll be time to drop another few hundred to get a lighter hardtail this year. Also, after the first ride, the bearings in the steerer tube were popping. After two separate adjustments at the bike shop, they finally got Trek to upgrade the parts and that fixed the problem.

I love this bike so much. I am going to start racing so i figure i need a new bike if i want to finish the race. I found this bike in my price range. I've ridden it on so much stuff and it has tackled all of it. i have never been able to ride this terrain before. The bike is very comfortable and spins up the steepest of hills. The only thing I don't like about it is that it is fairly heavy and the tires get clogged up fast. The tires are also too chunky. i know that any bike i get will be from trek.

I got this bike from alpine bikes, first impressions were that it fitted perfectly and it was every thing I needed. First imppression on my Favourite run was it handled well and it was great going up hills, but with in a month the chain had snapped, turns out the chain connector wasn't connected right. I thought it was just a minor blip but soon after the Front Derailleur fell off. after getting that fixed every thing was going well untill the chain snapped again. This was all in the last three months. So to sum up a great bike but it just is not a reliable, trust worthy piece of kit. I have also seen better spec up bikes for less money.

I first got the bike and it was amazing. when i lifted it to hang it up it was way too heavy.the 2008 model was way lighter than the 2010. it is still one of the best bikes ive ever had. i haven't ridden the bike two much. im getting clipless pedals for it so i can race.i paid for half of it and i would say i wouldn't mind paying for the whole thing. some thing i dont like though is the spring ids two stiff and there is very little adjustment. i have hear that sr suntour doesn't make a lighter spring for my model oh well
